Hello Dinah Eng,
You do not need to open Office Home 2021 separately. A document created in Office 2021 should open directly in the corresponding Office Home 2024 app on your Mac.
Please open Finder, locate the affected file, then Control-select it and choose Get Info. Under General, check whether Locked is selected. If it is, clear that option and try opening the file again.
If Locked is not selected, please tell us:
- Which application the file belongs to, such as Word or Excel
- The file extension, such as .docx or .xlsx
- The exact message displayed when opening it
- Whether you can open and edit a newly created blank file in the same application
This will help determine whether the issue concerns the individual file, its macOS permissions, or Office activation.
