"insert text"-functionality in Microsoft "Mouse- and Keyboard Center"

Hey there,

i'm wondering about this peculiar thing:

i would like to assign directory paths to the external numpad to have them simply be inserted with a press of the keys.

this would greatly help me to do some basic document work with pdf24 and word's exporting window,

but as far as i can see, the only way of achieving this would mean to enter the w h o l e path inside a macro,

which is pretty unconveinant as i want to be able to swap them regularly for other paths.

is there no way to just have text inserted? i mean i see all the functionality one could ever imagine in the "mouse and keyboard center" except this one. which seems weird.

am i missing something?

Thanks in advance

    Hi Jan Kohout,

Thanks for explaining what you’re trying to do. I completely understand why entering the whole directory path into a macro feels inconvenient, especially when you want to swap those paths regularly.

You’re not missing an obvious setting. Mouse and Keyboard Center doesn’t provide a separate Insert text field where the stored path can be changed independently. The text has to be included as keystrokes within the macro itself.

You can edit an existing macro when the directory changes, but that still means replacing the path inside the macro each time, so it may not offer the quick path-swapping workflow you had in mind.

Just to rule out any device-specific options, could you share the exact model of the external numpad and the version of Mouse and Keyboard Center you’re using? The available assignments can vary depending on the connected device.
