We have to move around 60TB of NFS data from on-premises NetApp to Cloud and have a constant sync weekly thrice.

We have 2 options

  1. Cloud Volume ONTAP feature of NetApp , for Azure
  2. Azure NetApp Files

Our On-premises is connected to Azure via ExpressRoute.

I see that NetApp's Cloud Sync Service can migrate data from both on-premises NetApp to both destinations , that is to both CLoudVolumeONTAP and to Azure NetApp Files.
Azure NetApp files can be monitored from Azure Monitor , but for Cloud Volume ONTAP, we need NetApp's Cloud Insight service. With Cloud Volume ONTAP, we can use SNAPMirror replication , which i think is free.. but with Azure NetApp, we have to go with Cloud Sync which is paid (we dont want XCP )

Any other comparisons to choose between Cloud Volume ONTAP and Azure NetApp ? What does Microsoft suggest to use ?

Azure NetApp Files
Azure NetApp Files
An Azure service that provides enterprise-grade file shares powered by NetApp.

@MS Techie Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, Thank you for posting your query here!

    What is the available bandwidth?

We have some experience with large scale migrations using CloudSync and XCP, and depending on available bandwidth transfers can be performed quite fast (and often times faster than an offline sync -and-resync migration).
For example; migration from AWS S3 source to ANF: 210TB in ~3 days.

Both CloudSync and XCP can be used over ExpressRoute, its really up to the customer. CloudSync is a multi-source/multi-target service, whereas XCP is more optimized for direct NFS->NFS or SMB->SMB migrations.

The migration path/tools should not dictate the end state, but rather the desired end state should dictate the migration path/tools
