    Hello,

Welcome to the Microsoft Windows Community.

How are you, @Mark Fraher ? To help us provide a more accurate solution, please let us know the make and model of your computer. Also, press Win+i, go to System, and under "About" (in the "Device specifications" section), click "Copy" and paste the information here so we can analyze it. In the meantime, please press Win+i, go to Troubleshoot, select "Camera," and follow the on-screen instructions. If that doesn't work, you may need to install the camera drivers, which can be found on your computer manufacturer's support website.

    Looking forward to your reply...

Thanks for posting here in Microsoft Community, I understand that you are having concern how to access, configure, and view a third-party external USB webcam on a computer running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit. To view your external camera on Windows 11 Pro, open the Start menu, type Camera and launch the built-in Windows Camera app. If your computer has a built-in webcam, click the Change Camera icon a camera with a cycling arrow in the top-right corner to switch to your USB device. If the screen is black or doesn't load, make sure the camera's physical privacy shutter is open, plug it into a different USB port, and check that access is enabled under Settings to Privacy and security next Camera.

Connect the USB webcam, open Start, type Camera, and select the Camera app; if another camera appears, select Change camera in the app’s upper-right corner to switch to the external camera.^1^

Preview and configure the USB camera

    1. Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Cameras.
    2. Under Connected cameras, select the USB camera.
    3. Its page should display a live preview and any supported image controls, such as brightness, contrast, zoom, or rotation.^2^
    4. Return to the Camera app to take photos or record video.

If the camera is connected but no picture appears

    1. Open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
    2. Turn on:
      • Camera access
      • Let apps access your camera
      • Let desktop apps access your camera if using Teams, Zoom, a browser, or another desktop program.^3^
    3. Close other applications that might already be using the camera, then reopen Camera.
    4. Try another USB port and connect directly rather than through a hub.

If the camera is absent from Connected cameras, open Device Manager and look under Cameras or Imaging devices. If it appears but does not work, right-click it and select Update driver. For a standard UVC webcam, an administrator can choose:

Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers → Let me pick from a list → USB Video Device → Next.^4^

The Windows UVC driver may not provide every manufacturer-specific feature. If the device is a digital still camera rather than a webcam, it may not provide a live video feed unless its manufacturer supports webcam mode.
