Switch Between Shared Windows with One Click

Hello,

I would like to ask whether it is possible to switch from sharing one window to another without having to stop sharing the current window first.

Currently, when I am sharing a window, the Share button disappears and only the Stop sharing button remains. This means I have to perform two separate actions: first, stop sharing the current window, and then select another window to share.

It would be much more convenient if I could simply click a button to select a different window. The current shared window would automatically stop being shared, and the newly selected window would immediately become the shared window.

Could you please let me know whether this feature is already supported? If not, would it be possible to consider adding it in a future update?

I believe this improvement would make switching between windows much faster and more convenient during meetings and presentations.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your support and look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Microsoft Teams does not currently provide a documented control for replacing an active window share in one click; the supported choices are to stop and select another window, or share the entire screen so switching applications is immediately visible.

    Available options

    For privacy—share individual windows

    1. Select Stop sharing from the presenter toolbar.
    2. Select Share in the meeting controls.
    3. Under Window, select the new application window.

The current presenter toolbar documentation lists Stop sharing, but no Change source or equivalent control.^1^

For faster transitions—share the entire screen

    1. Select Share.
    2. Choose Screen or Entire screen, rather than Window.
    3. Move between the applications normally.

Participants then see whichever application is displayed on that screen. Close confidential windows and disable notifications first, because everything shown on the selected screen may be visible.

If Entire screen is unavailable, the organization might have assigned a meeting policy that permits only single-application sharing. A Teams administrator can check Teams admin center → Meetings → Meeting policies → Content sharing → Screen sharing mode. The Entire screen policy allows both desktop and application sharing; Single application allows application sharing only.^2^

    Submit the feature request

In Teams desktop or Teams on the web, select:

Settings and more (…) → Feedback → Report a problem

Describe the request as an option such as Change shared window, which would replace the current source without ending presentation mode. Include the client used—desktop or web—and a short description of the current two-step workflow. Microsoft documents this in-product channel for sending Teams comments and suggestions.^3^

If that menu is unavailable, an administrator may have disabled organizational feedback. The Microsoft Feedback portal is another documented channel where users can submit, find, and upvote public feature suggestions.^4^

I agree that would make switching between windows much easier during meetings. As far as I know, Teams generally requires you to stop sharing before starting a new share, depending on the sharing options available in your version.

You could check whether the sharing toolbar offers any option to switch what you're presenting. If not, submitting this as a feature request through the Teams feedback option would be a good way to suggest the improvement to Microsoft.

    Dear @Anh Le

I understand you want to switch the shared window without interrupting your presentation. Assuming you mean Microsoft Teams, the available options depend on your operating system and whether you use the desktop app or a browser.

If you use Windows 11 with the Teams desktop app, I recommend checking taskbar sharing:

    1. Open Windows Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors.
    2. Enable Share any window from my taskbar, if available.
    3. During the meeting, hover over the destination app’s taskbar icon and select Share this window beneath its preview. Follow any confirmation prompt.

This provides a quicker way to select content without returning to Teams’ sharing controls, although it is not necessarily a one-click operation. Microsoft’s taskbar guidance.

Another option is to share a screen instead of an individual window, then switch between applications normally. Participants will see everything displayed on that screen, so choose it with that visibility in mind. Please refer to this: Present and share content

If you specifically want a Switch window button within Teams, you can submit that request through Settings and more (…) > Help > Give feedback. I cannot confirm a future release date.

Could you confirm whether you’re using Windows or macOS, and Teams desktop or Teams in a browser?
