Product activation error

2026-10-31T12:00:46.1+00:00

I have purchased a personal licence for Microsoft 365. When I try to launch Word on my computer, I get a product activation error. I am logged in to the same account I used to make the purchase, the subscription appears as active in my Microsoft account, and I have reinstalled the entire 365 suite, but the error persists.

Could anyone help me?

Many thanks in advance

Since the correct account is already signed in, the subscription is active, and reinstalling did not help, the next supported steps are:

  1. Check for multiple Office installations.
    • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Search for office in the Programs and Features search box.
    • If more than one Office or Microsoft 365 version appears, uninstall the version not being used.
    • Restart the PC.
    • Open Word again and sign in if prompted.
  2. Run Word as administrator once.
    • Close all Office apps.
    • Open Start, type Word.
    • Right-click Word and select Run as administrator.
    • Select Yes if prompted.
    • In Word, try File > Account > Activate Product, or use the Reactivate button if shown.
  3. Verify Windows date, time, and time zone.
    • Close all Office apps.
    • Select the date or time in the bottom-right corner.
    • Open Date and time settings.
    • Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically if available.
    • Restart Word.
  4. Run the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter.
    • Run it on the same Windows PC where Microsoft 365 is installed.
    • It requires Windows 10 or later.
    • Follow the prompts in Get Help to detect and fix activation problems.
  5. If activation still fails, completely remove and reinstall Office again using the full cleanup path.
    • Deactivate the Office install.
    • Use the easy fix tool to completely uninstall Office.
    • Reinstall Office from the account that owns the subscription.

If the issue is specifically error code 0x80070005, running Office as administrator and then using the activation troubleshooter are the documented steps.
