We have a single server with SCSM 2016 running on Windows Server 2012R2. We are not using the DW.
We wan't to upgrade to SCSM 2019, but to do that you need to be on at least Windows Server 2016.

We are thinking of this scenario:
Install a new SCSM 2016 server on Windows Server 2016 in the the same management group
using this procedure https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/scsm/set-up-lab-with-production-data?view=sc-sm-2019
Upgrade the secondary SCSM server to SCSM 2019
Promote the secondary SCSM server to the primary
Uninstall the "old 2016 SCSM server"

Will this scenario work?

(We dont want to buy the LMA software from Cireson)

    Hi @anbj23 ,

I would do it the following way:

    1. Install Windows Server 2016 on a "second" server
    2. Install SCSM 2016 on the "second server " as a second SCSM management server in the existing SCSM Management Group
    3. Install all the related software, for instance SMLets, ... on the new server
    4. Promote the second SCSM management server to be the primary SCSM management server
    5. Remove the "old SCSM server on Windows Server 2012R2" from SCSM Management Group
    6. Upgrade the "new SCSM 2016 on Windows Server 2016" with SCSM 2019

I think I have misunderstood the steps.
We have a single SCSM with SQL DB on that server. The server is windows 2012R2. We have now upgraded the server to SCSM 2019. We want to decommission this server.
I was thinking of installing a new server Windows 2019 and add that to the same management group.
But that will use the DB that is still on the old SCSM server.
I guess we will need to move the database also to the new server.
