A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
For the Authenticator error "Something went wrong. [4s8qz]", use these steps in order:
- Wait a few moments and try signing in again. Temporary service interruptions or app updates can cause this error.
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and confirm it opens normally, responds correctly, and the account is still listed.
- Update Microsoft Authenticator from the device app store.
- If this is a work or school device, also update the Company Portal app and make sure the device is compliant.
- Restart the device.
Also check these general items because they can block Authenticator sign-in:
- Switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi.
- Make sure Airplane mode is off.
- In Authenticator, go to Settings and make sure notifications are enabled.
- Turn off battery optimization for Authenticator in Settings.
- Make sure the device date and time are correct.
- If a VPN is enabled, disconnect it and test again.
- Make sure the app is not locked when trying to complete authentication.
If the message is instead "We could not complete the sign-in at this time.", make sure push notifications are enabled, confirm network connectivity, and remove the account and try the sign-in again.
If the issue still continues, capture logs from Authenticator > Settings > Send Feedback and then contact the IT admin for a work or school account, or Support for a personal account.
