how do i restart edge- I'm getting this message but i can't get edge to restart - Edge to get the latest version of Copilot. Your account and chats are moving over. If you don't sign in to the new experience by December 31, 2026, your Copilot history and content will be deleted.

    Hi!

This message is part of the migration of Copilot to a new experience.

In addition to ensuring your Edge browser is up to date, you should sign in to the new Copilot experience to avoid losing your history.

Please visit https://copilot.com/ and sign in using the same account linked to your Microsoft Edge browser. You must complete this step by December 31, 2026.

NOTE: Copilot in the Edge sidebar may be unavailable for a few days while Microsoft carries out the migration to the new experience.

Additionally, please keep your Edge browser up to date:

    1. Click the 3 dots in the top-right corner > Settings > About Microsoft Edge. It will check for updates, install them, and prompt you to restart the browser (close and reopen it).

Close every Edge window, reopen Edge, and complete any pending update from Settings and more (…) > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge.

    Restart and update Edge

    1. Save any unfinished work in Edge.
    2. Close all Edge windows.
    3. Reopen Edge.
    4. Select Settings and more (…) > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge.
    5. Edge will check for updates automatically:
      • If Restart appears, select it.
      • If Download and install appears, select it, wait for completion, and then select Restart.
      • If Microsoft Edge is up to date appears, no browser update is pending. ^1^

If Edge still does not restart, restart Windows using Start > Power > Restart, then open Edge and return to About Microsoft Edge. Microsoft lists restarting the PC as a fallback for persistent Edge update problems on Windows 10. ^2^

    Complete the Copilot move

The notice also requires action in Copilot, not only an Edge restart:

    1. Open Copilot again in Edge.
    2. Refresh the page.
    3. Sign in using the same personal account or sign-in method previously used with Copilot. For a Google or Apple account, choose the corresponding Continue with Google or Continue with Apple button.
    4. Follow any migration message displayed in Copilot.
    5. If chats are not immediately visible, allow time for the move and check again later.

Microsoft states that eligible chats and content move automatically after signing in to the updated Copilot app, but sign-in must occur by December 31, 2026 to preserve eligible content. ^3^

If the message remains after Edge is current and Copilot has been refreshed, select … > Send feedback > Report a problem in Copilot and include a screenshot.
