Hi,

Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 RD license servers will work with Windows Server 2016 deployments, but they can only process CALs from Windows Server 2012 R2 and older.

in my case, the host server 2016 will get a license from licensing manager 2012r2?

Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 RD license servers will work with Windows Server 2016 deployments, but they can only process CALs from Windows Server 2012 R2 and older. This means that they cannot use Windows Server 2016 CALs.

i went to install licenses from licensing server and i re entered my agreement number there are no windows server 2016 licenses, jsut 2012r2 and older. however in my agreement, i do have rds for 2016 licenses.

so could it be becasue my licensing maanger is running 2012r2?

Windows Server 2012 R2 license servers cannot license any newer Windows Server operating system.

in order to use it for 2016 hosts?
or i cant have a coexistence of both

Yes, you can run two different RD Licensing servers in same domain if you want.

The best option would be to install Server 2012 R2 RDS CALs on a Server 2016 RD Licensing server and use them for Server 2012 (or older) servers if you want.
For example, you could have a Server 2016 RD Licensing server with a mix of 2016 and 2012 RDS CALs with different server versions connecting to it to obtain licenses.

yes you gave the best option, but i am just afraid from a donwtime, i can install a new rds license server 2016 and install licenses for my 2008,2012,2016 host servers but what will happen to the old rds licensing server?
how can i redirect from the old one to the new one?
