Because this Microsoft 365 organization account is managed through GoDaddy and is already trapped in an MFA loop, have the account’s GoDaddy administrator reset its MFA method, then register Authenticator again from the Microsoft Security info page rather than adding it by signing into the app.
1. Try an existing alternative method once
On the Microsoft sign-in prompt, select Sign in another way or I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now.
- If SMS, phone call, or another previously registered method appears, use it.
- If no alternative appears, proceed to the reset below; Authenticator cannot generate or receive approval requests for this work account until registration is completed. It can support multiple accounts, but each work account must be registered separately with its organization. ^1^
2. Reset the GoDaddy-managed MFA registration
Do not keep trying to add the organization account through Authenticator → + → Work or school account → Sign in; that returns to the same verification requirement.
- If another GoDaddy Microsoft 365 administrator exists: ask that administrator to reset/clear the MFA method for your email account using GoDaddy’s Reset my multi-factor authentication method process. ^2^
- If you are the only administrator or cannot reach an administrator: contact GoDaddy Support and request an MFA/authentication-method reset for the affected Microsoft 365 account. GoDaddy-specific cases with this same sign-in loop direct sole administrators back to GoDaddy for the reset. ^3^
Resetting MFA removes the unusable registration; it does not mean removing the existing Dropsuite entry from Authenticator.
3. Register Azure/Microsoft 365 correctly after the reset
Complete the setup on two devices: display the QR code on a computer and scan it with the phone.
- Sign in to the work account’s Security info page.
- Select Add sign-in method.
- Choose Microsoft Authenticator → Add.
- Continue until the computer displays a QR code.
- On the phone, open Authenticator and select:
- +
- Work or school account
- Scan QR code
- Scan the QR code shown on the computer.
- Return to the computer and select Next.
- Approve the test notification in Authenticator and finish the wizard.
This QR-code process binds that specific organization account to the app. If scanning is unavailable, select Can’t scan the image on the computer and use the manual-code option in Authenticator. ^4^
Add another recovery method, such as a permitted phone method, when the setup wizard offers one. The completed Authenticator test confirms that registration succeeded. ^5^
If your organization manages Entra directly
Only if GoDaddy confirms that your tenant administrators can manage authentication methods directly, an administrator with at least the Authentication Administrator role can use:
Microsoft Entra admin center → Entra ID → Users → select the user → Authentication methods → Require re-register MFA, followed by Revoke sessions.
Re-registration deletes the user’s existing Authenticator, phone, and software OATH methods and prompts setup again at the next sign-in. ^6^
