mail enable security group

Hi All

i am using exchange 2016 hybrid environment, i have mail enabled security group lets say ******@contos.com, i have user1 as a owner of this group. when i try to remove user1 i am getting the below error, experts guide me.

    User Powershell on-prem if that is where the group is synced from: 

    Set-DistributionGroup <group> -ManagedBy @{Remove="user1'} -BypassSecurityGroupManagerCheck
