Hi All,

I have windows server 2012r2 installed on a HP Proliant microserver (n40l i think) and have a couple of issues the last couple of months.

about 6 months ago the mouse would stop working on the server, it would light up and everything but nothing on the screen and all i get is the below error when i try to update the driver:

HID-compliant mouse
The install class is not present or is invalid

i have tried other mouse devices and in other usb ports but just get the same issue.

about a month ago the server made a funy noise, i switched it of and on again and thought nothing of it. Wasn't until i tried to access my files i realised that the server no longer detects my hard drives other than the one the operating system is installed on.
i have 4 hard drives installed on the server, these are a 250gb, 4tb, 2tb and a 1tb. the only hard drive it detects is the 250gb which is the one the server installed on, the other hard drives are used for storage.
when i go into the bios settings it detects 3 hard drives, only the 1tb is missing.

my 3rd issue is while trying to fix the first 2 and keep rebooting the server, it tries to install a update but has to keep unstalling it.

can anyone help, not so fussed about the 3rd issue but really need to get my hard drives back.

Regards,

Sounds like it could be some failing or failed hardware. Might check if the server manufacturer provides any deep diagnostics tools.

    Thanks for reply.

when changing my boot options the mouse started to work but doesnt work in normal windows or safe mode.

i managed to access my storage spaces and the hard drives are detected there, it appears my 1tb has gone faulty but without my mouse i can run any diagnostics

Glad to hear of progress, best thing you can do is backup ASAP, then get in touch with vendor support about hardware repairs or replacement.

i can't backup as my server isnt showing anything to back up. i created one storage drive using all 3 drives to combine 6tb

i did used to backup every week but not done it one prob over a year, there only a couple files added since last backup. prob just record of hours worked.

is there any way of accessing storage spaces with the defected hard drive?

Do you have a disk to replace with? If so you could follow along here.
