inconsistent sub report parameter passing behavior

hi we run 2014 enterprise. a predecessor of mine coded a master and sub report with the same 13 PASSED report parameters. one of the 13 parameters is a sort order choice drop down that neither report uses. but one of the master's other sub reports does use it and i'm sure our user liked the idea "way back when" of picking that parameter in the parent so the child would render automatically.

today we looked closer at the 1st sub report's drop down of the sort param. and the possibility that removing it from that sub report wouldn't break anything including the expected back button behavior (ie master shows as originally rendered).

i got inconsistent results after removing the sort param from the 1st sub report. in one back button test ssrs decided to blank out the parent's non defaulting parameters. in another test, the parent rendered as it looked originally. which behavior is by design? should we expect that it is safest to include the sort param drop down in the 1st sub report. one of my peers vaguely remembers that we did this out of necessity.

we use IE exclusively right now but would move to chrome at least as a choice in the future.

thx joyzhao, i think this is what you are referring to from the original post ...one of the 13 parameters is a sort order choice drop down that neither report uses. Notice the word neither. i hope that answers your question. I can post pictures but i dont think they will help in this case and in fact they might detract from the question. Besides, this is somewhat proprietary so i'd have to redact most of the image anyway.

    Hi @db042190
Do you mean the parameter that sorts the subreport? Please forgive me for not seeing your point. If possible, please provide screenshot instructions.
    Best Regards,
    Joy
