Operation DeleteVirtualNetworkPeeringProxyOperation was canceled and superseded by operation DeleteVirtualNetworkOperation

I have 3 virtual networks with peerings associated among them. During the deletion of these via api call I am getting "Operation DeleteVirtualNetworkPeeringProxyOperation was canceled and superseded by operation DeleteVirtualNetworkOperation" this error. Any insights on what might be the reason behind this.
