Why is i7 Not Compatible with Windows 11!

I have a decent setup for my desktop (CPU i7-7700 3.6ghz 4-core, 32Gb Ram, GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3Gb, 256Gb-SSD, 1T-HD, 1T-Samsung 860 EVO SSD, 2T-Samsung 860 EVO SSD). I play games and record at the same time sometimes without maxing out my CPU or GPU. For what reason would my setup not be able to run Windows 11? What is in Windows 11 that my i7 and others can not handle? Many desktop/laptop owners have i6 and i7. So why make Windows 11 incompatible with the majority of users' computers?

    Hi there,

The processor are selected by various parameters and the important one is DCH Design Principles. Driver packages that are DCH-compliant contain an INF file and binaries that install and run on Universal Windows Platform (UWP)-based editions of Windows 10. They also install and run on other editions of Windows 10 that share a common set of interfaces.

Some of the 7th generation processor and all 8th generation Intel processor are supported for Windows 11.Hopefully these processors will be added on the future based upon the testing.

Microsoft shared a weblog explaining why they changed the requirement, take a look at:

The best way would be filing a report in the Feedback Hub app.

End users can use Windows 11 in a supported or unsupported fashion.

Most computers can run Windows 11 when clean installed.

So consider making free backup images.

Then clean install Windows 11 > test drive > restore the image when you've completed the test drive.

There are risks and benefits when using Windows 11 in the unsupported fashion.

Windows 11 may have better performance and better security.

Windows 11 in unsupported environments may have problems with future Windows and Microsoft Defender updates.

    Hi GeoffDavidson-2161,

If Windows 10 was at any time updated then licensing information is on Microsoft servers.

Once licensing information is on Microsoft servers end users can clean install Windows 10 or Windows 11 or replace their disk drives.

Microsoft has established parameters for supported Windows upgrades.

End users can install Windows 11 in a supported or unsupported fashion.

If parameters pass the criteria in the Windows update assistant then end users may be able to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

If parameters do not pass the criteria in the Windows update assistant then end users can make an unsupported installation.

When making a clean install there are no supported parameter checks.

Windows 11 has be installed on very old computers that have included desktops, laptops, and tablets.

An alternative to backing up files followed by a clean install is to modify the registry or files so that they are not detected by the Windows update agent.

So there are various methods to install Windows 11.

When installing Windows 11 in an unsupported fashion the end use may not benefit with the improvements in performance, reliability, and security.

Also the ability to update Windows and Microsoft Defender is uncertain. To date most end users have not reported these types of problems.
