Word is Not Saving

When I edit a file I have already created in Word, and then try to save it, it opens the "Save As" dialogue box. Then when I click "Save," it says, "A file or folder with the same name already exists....Replacing it will overwrite its current contents." Then when I click "Replace," the dialogue box won't close. The only thing that allows it to close is changing the name slightly. I've found that a helpful workaround, but it's pretty tedious to change the name of a document every time I want to save it. It simply won't save without opening the Save As dialogue box. I would love any advice to make this issue stop.

    Hi @Reynolds Chapman ,
    Welcome to Q&A forum!

To better analyze this issue, please check and confirm the following information with us.

    • Which version of Office are you using?
    • Please describe the error message in detail or share a screenshot with us.
    • Does only one specific Word file have this problem? How about Excel workbooks and PPT presentations?

Please check and try the following steps to check this issue:

    1. Where did you save the file? Please change the save path.
    2. What is the extension of the file? Please try to save it in another format, such as .doc.
    3. Search for "%temp%" in the Windows search bar to open the Temp folder, back up and remove all folders/files.

If none of the above works, I also suggest that you copy the file to another computer for checking.

Any updates, please let me know.

Under which operating system are you running Office? Generally, Mac OS is more strict about save locations than Windows.

Where are you trying to save, specifically? The default document location should work.
