I had a paper stuck in draft mode and could not alter my header nor footer. I checked on this forum and went through the steps like clicking on print layout and that should put you back in normal use mode. Well like most asking the same question it didn't. To solve this problem click on "file", "options", "display", under the first section Page display options check the box " Show white space between pages in Print Layout view." That should solve your issue and no, your document is not corrupted as was the popular opinion on this forum.

    Hi @victor torres ,
    Welcome to Q&A forum!

Which version of Office are you using? Please go to File>Account to check and share the detailed version with us.
And I understand your confusion about this issue, please check if the following information is helpful to you.

    1. Go to the C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates folder, find Normal.dotm and rename it to oldNormal.dotm. It is template file of Word, which will be automatically generated when Word is opened next time.
    2. Try to open the file in safe moed: open the Run box, type "winword /safe" in Run box, and click OK. Then open the file to check this issue.
    3. Besides, I found that there are many users shared their solutions in this similar thread: Word stuck in Draft Mode, please check if they are helpful to you.

If none of the above works, please copy your file to another PC for checking, if the issue still persists, I would suggest that you refer to the following official KB to repair your file.

If this is affecting a particular document, corruption is more likely than a display issue.

Try copying document content, minus the final paragraph mark (¶), into a new, blank document. Does that fix the corruption?

To show/hide paragraph marks as well as other nonprinting marks, click the ¶ icon on the Home tab.
