Team member is on vacation during a sprint - how do you prevent assignment of work items to the team member?

Hello.

I am working in Azure DevOps and my team members have added their days off to the team calendar. I have a team member who is out of office for an entire sprint, but I was able to assign work items to them during the sprint they will be out of the office for. Is there a way to prevent scheduling team members for sprints they will not be available for? Or, is there an error message that will pop up noting the individual is not available?

Thanks for any help you can offer.
Cheers,
Randi

Thank you for reaching out! Azure DevOps and its services are not supported in Microsoft Q&A because the Azure DevOps team and DevOps community are actively answering questions here:

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/spaces/21/index.html

Before you go, take a quick look at this documentation to see if it answers your question:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/boards/sprints/set-capacity?view=azure-devops

Capacity takes into consideration the variation in work hours by team members as well as holidays, vacation days, and non-working days.

Because days off and time available for each team member can vary from sprint to sprint, you can set capacity for each sprint. The capacity tool helps you make sure your team isn't over or under committed for the sprint. Also, as you work day-to-day, you'll be able to see if your team is on track.
