Effects of removing DPT from in place archive enabled mailbox in O365

I have had a DPT applied to a large mailbox for almost a year.

This has shrunk the mailbox to a manageable size and the user would like to disable this to stop the moving of mail items as they age out of that duration.

The archive policy created and applied looks like this :

I need to confirm that changing the policy to a policy with NO DPT or removing the retention policy completely, will stop the movement of items from the mailbox to archive.

Is it correct that removing this policy or DPT will effectively disable the automatic archiving of mail but retain the online archive mailbox?

Thanks very much for any help.

Yes, more or less. Items that were already stamped will continue to be processed, and in the case of removing a Default tag, the entire content of the mailbox will have to be re-examined. But the end result it that items will stop moving, and the items that were already moved to the archive will stay therein.
You can also remove/change the retention policy assigned to the user, or pause retention processing altogether. Hi @CtrlAltThomas-7088 ,

Is it correct that removing this policy or DPT will effectively disable the automatic archiving of mail but retain the online archive mailbox?
Yes, the emails in archive mailbox will be there and no new emails will be moved to the archive mailbox by the retention policy.

For your case, I think you could just remove the DPT tag and remain the policy if you are still going to use the retention policy. Or if you don't want it anymore, just remove the policy from the user or delete the policy.

    Best regards,
    Lou

Thank you both, @Xzsssss and @Vasil Michev , appreciate the prompt response.

What I had hoped to do was apply a different policy with NO DPT at all, but with several personal and deleted as below.

From what you say I expect this has the same effect as removing the DPT from the policy.
