Hi there community. I have an OpenVPN from my home network to my small business. I use file sharing at work so I decided to use file sharing over the VPN. I have two computers at my work. One is Windows server 2016 and the other is a Windows 10 machine. When I connect the OpenVPN tunnel I am able to see my network shares on my Windows server machine without any issues. However I wasn't able to see shares on my windows 10 machine. I also couldn't ping the Windows 10 computer at all. It ended up being two odd firewall rules that I'm not sure what they are. In order to ping the Windows 10 PC I had to enable "Virtual Machine monitoring echo request". In order to see the Windows 10 file share I had to enable @netlogon -1003 and @netlogon -1008. When l open the Windows 2016 server firewall settings I don't even see these rules at all.

I guess my question is what is @netlogon 1003, 1008, and why is only on the Win10 PC?
What does Virtual Machine monitoring have anything to do with my VPN?

This is all just for educational purposes and I appreciate your time.. Thank you

    Hi there,

Netlogon is a Local Security Authority service that runs in the background. It handles authenticating users in to the domain. The netlogon folder contains logon scripts and group policies that can be used by computers deployed within a domain.

The NetLogon folder is located in the following path:
    %systemroot%\Sysvol\Sysvol\Domain Name\Scripts.

Check if you have set any firewall rule or inbound rule that is preventing the file share.
