How to change email address for Microsoft Authenticator?

I just read through the back up and recovery article for Microsoft Authenticator. It stated that my recovery account email cannot exist in the Microsoft Authenticator app. Is there a way to change my recovery email in this case as I can't just turn MFA on and off without help from our IT company? I just want to be sure I can recover my Authenticator app when I get a new phone.
