This is regarding the migration of fileshare to sharepoint online using SPMT tool. We usually do the process as 2 steps(Test and incremental migartion). Test migration is Migarting all fileshare contents including the permission to sharepoint. After one week interval do an incremental with the date of test migartion. But we are facing an issue here, after the first migration, whenever someone renames moves or deletes afile/folder in fileserver- once it is created in sharepoint, however the tool does not delete, move or rename in sharepoint that is it does not make the source and destination identiacally. So far we have to manually find the file/folder that is deleted, moved or renamed from the fileshare and do the same in sharepoint. It feels like a drawback of SPMT. Is there any way to overcome this issue?

    Hi @chandana sasi ,

As per my knowledge, this is a normal scenario and I'm afraid there is no way to overcome it. SPMT is just a migration solution, it doesn't support building a synchronization between your local file share and SharePoint Online library. To sync SharePoint Online library with local file server, you can take other tools such as Azure file sync, OneDrive or some 3rd-party apps into consideration. A thread on this topic for your reference: Sharepoint Online and Local file server sync.

The Migration tool can copy and modify all source contents to target ,but updates like deletion or rename will not be synced with Target.

If a file is renamed ,it is considered as a new file and copied again.

If anything is deleted from source after the initial migration ,it will not be deleted from target .

In my knowledge so far migration tools do not sync source and Target data. It merely copies and update the content, the criteria being the name and modified date stamp.
