Outlook Shared MailBoxes not retaining last expanded view on startup

Hi all,

One of our clients brought it to our attention that shared mailboxes get automatically collapsed on start up. They do not retain the last expanded view.

Also, the personal folder structure remembers it's previous state ie. expanded/collapsed. This only happens for Shared Mailboxes folders

Also, the client is on Citrix thick client.

Is this normal behavior with Exchange online? I've tried a few Google searches but can't seem to come up with an answer?

Solutions I tried:-

Create a new Outlook profile.
Repair Office.
disabling and re-enable "Download Shared Folders" settings in cached Outlook mode.

But nothing worked..

I am writing to see how things are going on with this issue. Have you had a chance to try upgrading to the latest version or switching to monthly channel to see the result?

Overhere I have the exact same behaviour with and additional added (shared) mailbox in Oulook 365..
I remember that there used to be an option to expand the additional mailbox by default, but that was ages ago with an older version of Oulook/Office. Maybe even Office 2010 or earlier.

To bad they removed the feature.

Yes expected behavior. The work-around is to enable "Download Shared Folders" in cached Outlook mode and restart. Once those shared folders are cached, they should show up as expanded when you re-open Outlook

Tired this already. But no success.

Even I tried disabling and re-enable "Download Shared Folders" settings. But no success.

hmm, what version of Outlook? Works for me using the 365 client Version 2109 - Monthly Channel

Hi @Tushar Kamble ,

I checked it in my Outlook for Microsoft 365 (Version 2102, Build 13801.21050) Semi-Annual Channel, enabling "Download Shared Folders" setting in cached mode worked for me as well:

As Version 2002 (Build 12527.20988) is a quite old version for Office 365 in semi-annual channel, see Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps, aside from switching to monthly channel as suggested by Andy, you can also try testing by checking for any installing all the available updates for your Office application and see if there would be any improvement.

This did the trick in 2025. Nice to see why and I think I understand. To open non cached folders would take some time so better of closed. This isn't an issue with cached shared folders. Thanks!!

Upgrade to the monthly channel and see if that works
