I need to create an environment of windows 10x64 1809 for testing purposes. We have Windows 10 1809 wim file (created using Build & Capture from the ISO), can we use this wim file into the existing task sequence which deploys this Windows 10x64 20H2?
I've tried it, but the task sequence failed with the error code 0x00000001.

No one can answer that question, but only the OSD admin of yours by testing it. Task Sequence in each company is unique. As a side commend, build & capture is quite useless. This is my personal opinion, but I never bothered to capture Windows 10, just use vanilla install.wim. It is only a matter of time, how fast you need to deployed vs. admin headache to maintain custom wim. Anyway, that error code also does tell you 0 info. If you new to OSD, start to monitoring it: https://www.prajwaldesai.com/monitor-sccm-task-sequence-progress/

For deep dive troubleshoting, you need also smsts.log unless that monitoring logs does not give you full picture already.
