Hyper-V doesn't find virtual machine

I'm a first time user of Hyper-V. I have a virtual machine (.vhdx) that I want to load in Hyper-V on a Windows 10 computer. However, when I open Hyper-V, the Virtual Machines list at the top of the main page screen reports "No virtual machines found on this server." I wasn't sure where to locate the .vhdx file so I checked the default path for virtual machines in the Settings menu (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks) and copied the file there. However, it still doesn't show up in the Virtual Machines list on the main page. What am I missing?

Also, I'm curious as to the difference between the .vhd and .vhdx file extensions...?

    Hi @ginahoy ,

If you simply have a .VHDX file without any configuration files, you will likely need to create a new virtual machine and attach the .VHDX file to it.

If you have a whole folder of the virtual machine, you can most likely import it using the Hyper-V Manager tool or PowerShell.
