BizTalk 2016 File adapter shut down - credentials

We have a BizTalk receive location which has worked for years and suddenly shuts down every time it runs with the error "The FILE adapter cannot access the network share using the supplied credentials." It is simply moving a file from one server to another. We've tried re-entering the credentials without success. If we restart the server, it can connect a single time and the next time will fail again with the same error and shut down the receive location. Our network infrastructure team indicate that no changes have been made from that perspective. What other things might cause this error?

Perhaps the SMB server side setting of max 512 file notification listeners is reached if BizTalk and other listeners use same file server? You can increase this on file server.
