If someone observes the same issue then that means that while exporting we ran into an exception during the conversion and we return a generic "Unable to convert message to API definition".
This issue could be observed due to multiple reasons I will suggest you to engage us over the support ticket to assist you further.
When I export from an otherwise working contract in apim I get this error "Unable to convert message to API definition" even affter redeploying
