Hello,

Please i would like to know how often the AVD clients are updated and whether this can be managed.

I have had situations where the session host version is updated without my knowledge and users are unable to log with the admin restarting the vms.

The Azure Virtual Desktop agent updates at least once per month.
Refer this document.

Please check the update behavior of the client on your side, which could be the reason for an auto update. Please check this document for details on how the client update behavior is handled.

Hello and thanks for you response.

I am referring to updates on the session host and not the desktop client.
I am aware that the session host version is update once a month and just need to know if there are any notifications prior to the updates and also if this can be managed. i.e can I set the host VM versions to update say out of hours?

Apologies for the confusion.

Can you please confirm if you are referring to the AVD Agent on the VM or the client software (MSRDC) on the endpoint device?

As of today the agent updates are managed by the service. You can't control them.
Checked with internal team on this and got to know that in the future, we are going to provide a capability for the IT admin to schedule the agent updates.
Usually, the situation you describes happens, if there are pending updates/MSI installations or reboots (from other software installations or Windows Updates) that would prevent the Agent to auto-update.
