Azure Backup Server cannot continue the backup job as it has been disconnected from the Azure service for 15 or more days (ID 50004)

A few months back I was testing out Azure Backup Server to backup some on premise VMWare VMs to Azure. This worked well at the time, but my attention went elsewhere for a while. I returned to it today to discover DPM was down and services broken which I fixed, but now I find that I cannot make new recovery points or perform consistency checks, any attempt results in a failed job with the following message:

"Microsoft Azure Backup Server cannot continue the backup job as it has been disconnected from the Azure service for 15 or more days (ID 50004)"

Looking up the error code (and also reported 50007), the solution is to restore connectivity to Azure. Network connectivity to Azure services is confirmed OK, but I can't see a way in MABS to force it to check. I eventually hit Management -> Register to reregister and update vault credentials. This was accepted and I then managed to use MABS to delete a backup from Azure RSV which I would assume confirmed connectivity, yet no backup tasks will work, always repeating the same message.

My questions are

  1. How do I make MABS realise connectivity is restored?
  2. Can I reset backups and configuration and start over? I don't care if I lose several month old backups

Hello @Paul @ Dog Digital - Thank you for reaching out to us!

Try to upgrade the MABS version from MABS V2 to MABS V3 RTM
Ensure there is enough space on C:\ Drive
Also download the latest version of MARS agent.

Disable antivirus software and then try the backups. If it succeeds, perform below steps:

    · To review and correct the below antivirus exclusions along with the paths and names of processes in order to perform backups while keeping the antivirus enabled:

    Antivirus Exclusions:

    o C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Backup Server\DPM\DPM\bin

    o C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Backup Server\DPM\DPM\bin\msdpm.exe

    o C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Backup Server\DPM\DPM\bin\dpmra.exe
