Hi everyone,
i just installed visual studio 2017 on my macbook which is running OS X 10.11, i needed help with setting up a device for android development, therefore can someone pls help with how i can set up a virtual device on visual studio because i don't have a phone to use for android development.

Visual Studio Code doesn't have an integrated virtual Android device. It can work with Android VMs installed with Google's Android SDK.
Visual Studio 2017 doesn't run on Mac, and Visual Studio 2017 for Mac is out of support.
Visual Studio 2019 for Mac supports Android development in its Xamarin workload. If you choose Android workloads and VMs when you install it then it will install Google's Android SDK and emulators for you. See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/mac/xamarin?view=vsmac-2019#android

2021-12-05T15:49:54.507+00:00 Thanks for the solution, but i have another question since you said visual studio code doesn't support AVD and visual studio 2017 is not supported then , what should i do because i just started android development and my mac can't update to the latest mac operating system for me to get the newer version of visual studio.

2021-12-05T20:54:28.687+00:00 Visual Studio Code is an editor and doesn't install SDKs on its own. You can install Google's Android SDK separately and should be able to work with it in Visual Studio Code. This is essentially what happens with Visual Studio for Mac as well: Microsoft doesn't provide an Android Emulator. VSMac can install Google's Android SDK and VMs for you, and then you can call them from your VSMac projects.
Visual Studio for Mac 2019 supports MacOS High Sierra for Android development. It requires newer versions for iOS development because Apple requires newer versions for iOS development. See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/mac/installation?view=vsmac-2019#requirements
Again though: none of these tools are supported on Microsoft Q&A, so it's not the best place to ask questions about them.
