Xamarin Forms - Custom Control with Hot Reload

Hi to all,

I want to create a custom control ( possible with content view ) that is able to work with Hot Reload. If your answear is " Impossible to do " then I am asking you how the guys from SyncFusion made a framework (with custom controls of course) that is fully compatible with Hot Reload ?!

You could create a custom control that is able to work with Hot Reload. I create a new content view ( with xaml ), Hot Reload works, you could have a try. If it doesn't work on your side, would you mind sharing your custom control to test?

If you try to change backgroundColor to <StackLayout> inside ContentView.Content in Hot Reload it doesn't work. You have to reload app to see changes

I try to change the backgroundcolor, the Hot Reload works in Android Emulator and iOS Simulator. Sometimes, some third-party control couldn't trigger Hot Reload.
You could try to set your linker to Don't Link or Link None for the best experience. The Link SDK only setting works most of the time, but it may fail in certain cases. Linker settings can be found in your Android and iOS build options. For more details, you could refer to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/xamarin/xamarin-forms/xaml/hot-reload#known-limitations

In addition, would you mind sharing your VS version and trying to update?

I didn't reply to you until now because meanwhile I moved to VS 2022 (before was VS2019) and now I'm using it. I will try to reproduce a scenario then I will come to you with a fully testable scenario.

I have a scenario that you could easily try :

I have this custom control named SsButton

<Button xmlns="http://xamarin.com/schemas/2014/forms" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2009/xaml" x:Class="SmartShopFk.Controls.SsButton" ></Button>

If I use it in a content page

<controls:SsButton Text="Default Button" />

and try to change the Text property it doesn'reloads using hot reload.... I have to reload the app. BUT if I use an Entry instead Button, with the same logic it works, why ?

So create a SsEntry that inherit's Entry

<controls:SsEntry Text="dasdfsdafdada" BackgroundColor="Red" />

And if I change background color or text it is refreshing using Hot Reload... On the same page that SsButton doesn't work.....

Could you please me help to fix the hot reload for SsButton ?
