Long Retention

Hi Team,

If i want to extend one or few backup jobs retention for long time (due to case raised and need to keep the backup more than the retention period). how can we change the retention for few jobs.

like other tools, do we have option to extend the retention at backup job level?

Retention can be set differently for daily, weekly and monthly as described in the documentation - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/tutorial-backup-vm-at-scale#set-backup-policy-to-protect-vms

Could you please provide more details about your requirement?

Also share other backup tools that offer this option. This would help getting appropriate information from the concerned team.

Hi SadiqhAhmed,

As we have job level retention on commvault-like if i need to increase the backup job retention for single backup job, we can modify by select the backup job in the storage policy and change the retention.

ex: if i am working on case with microsoft for one of the restore, after few days they are asking restore again from the same backup and test. in this case backup retention we need to extend for future test(if we have 30 days retention and we restored from 20th days backup, only we have remaining 10 days, and in this case we cant predict we need to restore future).

How can we accomplish this in azure?

@Siva Currently operations on a single recovery point is not supported for Azure Backup.

The backup policy is retroactive. Hence in order to increase retention of a recovery point, one has to increase the retention using the policy that protects the workload. This will retroactively increase retention of existing as well as new backups.

It means, we need to create separate schedule policy with long retention and associate this server for long retention schedule policy temporaryly?
