Does MS Remote Desktop work around the globe?

Hi, I'll be in the USA for next summer and I wonder if I can connect to my local PC in Slovakia from there?

If so, should I expect major lags and/or other problems? How fast should my connection be?

Hi,

Yes you can remote connect to your PC in Slovakia from USA, but you will need to configure VPN or Remote Desktop gateway.

If no VPN and RD gateway, you could use below third party tool -- TeamViewer

There might be lag and sudden disconnection issue. If you encounter this issue, you can try below settings to see if it improves some.

1. When connecting, configure "Low-speed.." in Experience tab.
   
2. On remote desktop (Slovakia), configure below local group policy.

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Session Host > Remote Session Environment

a. Limit maximum color depth -- select low bit
b. Configure image quality for RemoteFX Adaptive Graphics -- select low
c. Configure RemoteFX Adaptive Graphics -- select Optimize for minimum bandwidth usage
d. Configure compression for RemoteFX data -- select Optimized to use less network bandwidth

Hi,

It is a certificate issue. Where did you buy this certificate?

If it works in Slovakia but does not work in USA, it should be because the certificate authority's website cannot be visited from USA. In another word, the USA network block this website.

You could contact the certificate supplier to see if they could fix the problem.
