Hi Team, What is the exact process for vss vm backup. still it is following the esxi host and datastore concept for vm backup. then how we can check the datastore space issue. Can any one assist on this?

@Siva For Windows VMs that are running, Backup coordinates with Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to take an app-consistent snapshot of the VM. By default, Backup takes full VSS backups. If Backup can't take an app-consistent snapshot, then it takes a file-consistent snapshot of the underlying storage (because no application writes occur while the VM is stopped). Hi SadiqhAhmed-MSFT,

Where the snapshot will create and store in azure vm backup? and then transferred to vault.

During ASR also it is creating snapshot, what is the difference for both. If high churn rate is high, backup will run for more time and complete. But in ASR, this is taking for 4 times as application consistence in a day and 5 mins as crash consistence backup.

How come high churn rate will come here as high. crash consistence is running every 5 mins once while app-consistence is utilizing the high churn rate. what is missing in crash consistence and app-consistence replication. why it is showing high churn rate in every 4 hrs once(app-consistent) time only.

Azure backup snapshot is stored locally in the local storage account. Probably you are comparing VSS with ESXi which are two different things.

For unmanaged disk you will see the snapshots getting created under the Storage account which hosts the disks. For managed disk VMs you cannot see it as the storage account itself isn't visible.
