disable word options

I want to prevent access to the Word options and more specifically to the "Verification" and "Customize Ribbon" options.

I have not found a solution, GPO or registry key to remove the "Option" menu and I was wondering if it was possible to remove access to the "Check" and "Customize Ribbon" sub-menu with the gpo : https://admx.help/?Category=Office2016&Policy=word16.Office.Microsoft.Policies.Windows::L_disablecommandbarbuttonsandmenuitems174

But how to know the corresponding ID ?

or is there a simpler solution?

David

    Hi @David Martin

    Welcome to Q&A forum.

The registry entery that you shared needs to enter Control IDs.
To get the Contrl IDs, we could download "Office 2016 Help Files: Office Fluent User Interface Control Identifiers".
For more information, here is a thread "Manage Office via Group Policy".

1 The Control ID for "Customize Ribbon" is 21609.

Based on my tests, it could only greyed out the "Customize the Ribbon" in right-click menu on the Ribbon like following image.
    157738-capture75.jpg
But "Customize Ribbon" still be avaliable via going to File > Options > Customize Ribbon.

To prevent Ribbon customizations, please add the following registry.
    Path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\policies\microsoft\office\16.0\common\toolbars\word
    Value Name nousercustomization
    Value Type REG_DWORD
    Data 1

Via it, users will not be able to customize the Quick Access Toolbar and Ribbon through either the Quick Access Toolbar and Ribbon tabs in the application's Office Center dialog box, or the right-click menu on the Ribbon.

2 Then could you please where is the "Check" button under "Options" menu?
I would suggest you use Find & Replace to find this button.

Any updates, you could post back.

Hi I have an additional question. Is it possible to really disable Word options? I can disable it with GPOs, for example deactivate some control IDs, and the registry, but it only disables the option entry in the backstage view. But with the Microsoft Search bar I can still looking for the options:User's image

The simplest way would be to disable the Microsoft Search bar but it seems not possible (only collapse, but not really disable). Is there a chance of either disable the options dialog or the Microsoft Search bar in the title bar? Thanks a lot! Daniel
