Unable to create new Protection Group with MABS V3

We would like to backup our VMware machines. Whenever we try to create a new Protection Group, we get the following error:

Create protection group: X201 failed:
Error 33507: DPM could not execute a WMI query. The query either returned an error or an empty result.
Recommended action: Retry the operation.

Allocate replica for X201 SERVER failed:
Error 33507: DPM could not execute a WMI query. The query either returned an error or an empty result.
Recommended action: Retry the operation.

Update online backup policy for X201 SERVER failed:
Error 33507: DPM could not execute a WMI query. The query either returned an error or an empty result.
Recommended action: Retry the operation.

Tried reinstalling the whole server, didn't help.

The MABS server is on Windows Server 2019 and is joined to our domain. The server is not a domain controller.

  • SQL Server 2017
  • MABS V3

WMI is running OK on the server.

Any hints?

    Are you using any other backup solution like veeam/comvault on the same Azure backup server?

    If you are using any anti-virus software, ensure to add the exclusion as mentioned in the doc here - https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs/blob/master/articles/backup/backup-azure-mabs-troubleshoot.md#configure-antivirus-for-mabs-server
