Which version of Windows is currently installed?

You need to note that if the BitLocker drive is encrypted on Windows 7/8.1, the Bitlocker drive cannot be read on Windows 10 due to different encryption algorithms.

Sylvia's info is incorrect, it's the other way round.
Win10 v1511 introduced a new encryption algorithm (XTS_AES), which is not understood by older versions of windows.
So if you have encrypted on win10 v1511 or newer, it's only readable on win10 v1511 or newer.

If that does not apply to you, give us more details about the OS' that are in use.
