Hi,
I am using Teams desktop version on Ubuntu.
Almost always if someone sends me an image in chat I try to open it but I just see a blank screen, even the chat is gone. This happens all the time: 
What I try in order to see the image, is that I open another chat and go back to old chat, so that I can see the chat again. Then I click on the image again. Often I have to repeat this 4-7 times until I actually see the image. Its really not usable like this. It even got so bad, that people have to send me an email with the image, because it will simply not show in Teams.
Any idea how to fix it please?

What is your operation system in your environment?
Do you have the same question in Teams web client?
To exclude the client issue, we firstly recommend you try to login Teams web client to see if this issue can be fixed. If there is no issue in Teams web client, you could try to log out Teams client and run the following command to clear your client cache file:
rm -r ~/.config/Microsoft/Microsoft\ Team
Meanwhile, please make sure your client version is the newest.

my environment is Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS.
I haven't tried the web client for a long time. I cannot tell right now, because currently both (client & web) of teams seem to work for old images.
So I will try to work with web-client after christmas holiday and see if the error comes up there as well. I will get back to you then.
Will removing the cache remove my chat history or old images? And how to make sure that I have the latest client version on Ubuntu?

Clearing Teams client cache file will not delete your chat history and pictures. They are stored in Exchange online mailbox file.
To make sure you have the newest version, you could go to ...> Check for updates.

I have the same probleme with Teams, I on Pop!_OS 20.04 (base on Ubuntu 20.04).
If you you Right-Click on the image and then Left-Click on the image, it will work.
