As it says in the title

Tried to update my computer and then the screen went black and wouldn't change.

Then I restarted my laptop and got hit with a critical process died

Things I've tried:

-Did a system restore from my first save point but it didn't work

  • safe mode doesn't work
  • I've done sfc /scannow thing ( came up with an Windows Resource Protection Could Not Perform The Requested Operation)
  • second time I tried to do system restore said I had to enable system protection
  • tried rstrui.exe /offline:C:\windows=active to get around this but got a restore error
  • unable to uninstall any updates
  • uanble to reinstall windows
  • chkdsk : error in index $i30 for file (c0663 and c0667)
  • chkdsk /f fixed these leasing to 10 unindexed files being recovered to their original location. Failed to transfer logged messages with status 6

-
Any help will be very greatly appreciated

To add I've got an Acer spin 5

Find 2 or 3 flash drives that you can format.

(some may be used more than once if you only have 2)

Find a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures and post images into this thread.

When posting share links please use one drive, drop box, or google drive.

    Find a working computer.

On the working computer create a bootable Sea Tools flash drive:

    https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

    https://www.seagate.com/support/kb/how-to-use-seatools-bootable-007843en/

Run the long generic test > post images or share links into this thread

More steps to follow pending the above results.

The software will format the flash drive.

So you can use one flash drive as long as continue to have access to the working computer to make another bootable flash drive.

An alternative may be using Ventoy: https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html

    https://www.lifewire.com/seagate-seatools-review-2626150

These are the additional tools /flash drives that may be used:

    a) bootable Ubuntu:
    https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows#1-overview

    b) bootable Windows 10 iso 21H2:

Was that running Sea Tools for Windows on the working computer?
The working computer displayed Sea Tools long generic pass?

If you can create a bootable Sea Tools flash drive then you can move the flash drive to the problematic computer.
Then you will boot the problematic computer using the Sea Tools flash drive.
Then run the Sea Tools long generic test on the problematic computers disk drive.

See the Lifewire and Sea Tools instructions in the prior post.

In case you prefer using the older testing tool then you can use Sea Tools for DOS on the problematic computer:
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/61944-seatools-dos-hard-drive-diagnostic.html

When you power on the problematic computer what do you see now?

If you can boot Windows then run the V2 log collector:

    https://www.tenforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/2198-bsod-posting-instructions.html

    Run:
HD Tune (free or trial version)
    https://www.hdtune.com/
Post images for results on these tabs:
    a) Health
    b) Benchmark
    c) Full error scan

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    sfc /scannow
    chkdsk /scan

Post images of the commands with results into this thread.
For any problem posting images please use share links (one drive, drop box, or google drive)

Please boot the problematic computer > post images of the error messages / codes

Create a bootable Ubuntu flash drive:
    https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows#1-overview

Backup all important files to another disk drive or the cloud.

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/438909/linux-to-the-rescue-how-ubuntu-can-help-a-computer-in-distress.html

Once you've backed up all important files to another disk drive or the cloud create a bootable Windows 10 iso 21H2:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create-bootable-usb-flash-drive-install-windows-10-a.html
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9230-download-windows-10-iso-file.html
