AD Domain Naming - Multiple

Here is a dilemma/ question I am hoping someone can provide some feedback if it can be done.

We have a legacy application where a user credential is hardcoded into the code, such as DOMAIN1\User. We have an AD domain such as TPPRODDOM\User.. Is there a way I can add an alias or something for our existing domain so that I can use the context of DOMAIN1\User? Kind of like tricking it. I hope I am explaining myself right here :-) Thanks

Create a dummy DOMAIN1 domain, then create a domain trust between dummy and production domains.
