I am unable to set darkmode in Office 2010 pro plus as downloaded from the VLC. The reading pane for onenote, outlook, word, etc, remain white despite the border changing to black. I am on c2r, version 1808 10382.20010. I have checked for updates within the program and it says that I am up to date.

Dark Mode is available for Office 365 subscribers and non-volume licensing Office 2019 customers currently, it means these users can try this feature on Word, OneNote 2016, Outlook. (Please note, this feature is not available for all Office apps, such as Excel, PowerPoint.)

According to your description, Version1808 (Build10382.20010) is one of volume licensed versions. For more, please refer to 'Volume licensed versions of Office 2019'. So, this version does not include Dark Mode feature.

The following Office Home&Student 2019 (One of retail Office 2019 versions) includes this feature. After setting "Black" as a theme, it would show "Switch Mode" button under "View" tab to let us turn on or turn off this feature.

Is there an intent to allow this feature for volume customers? It has been two years since it was announced.

I want to help you, but so far, I have not searched for any statement from the Microsoft that adds Dark Mode for volume licensed Office 2019.

It's recommended to vote this thread 'Add Dark Theme / Night Mode' up or submit a new request for this feature on Microsoft Feedback forum.

Currently, I would also suggest you change the page color to be black to enhance the eye experience.

For Word, you can go to Design tab > Page Background > Page group > Page Color, select one color that you need.

For PowerPoint, you can go to Design tab > Customize group > Format Background, select one color that you need. Then save the slide as PNG images.

For Excel, you can go tp Page Layout tab > Page Setup group > Background, choose the PNG image above that you created.

I am using Office Pro Plus 2019 C2R Version 2209 (Build 15629.20156) and do not have the option for dark reading mode in Outlook. I have checked Word, and this view mode is enabled (happy times), however it is not available in Outlook - the sun/moon icons are not showing.

Can someone please help?

Since this is an old thread, it would be better to start a new one, I believe. Use the office-outlook-itpro tag (see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/topics/46487/office-outlook-itpro.html).

Generally, though, perpetual versions of Office, such as Office Professional Plus, do not receive the same updates as subscription versions.

Thanks @Stefan Blom , I will start a new thread.
As a side note, this thread specifically states that the mode is available for Non O365, Non-VLK Office 2019 Retail (which is what I have).
