We have a running SQL cluster stretched across 2 physical sites with below details.

Site A - Primary Site
NodeA - Windows Server 2019
NodeB - Windows Server 2019

SiteB - Secondary Site
NodeC - Windows Server 2019
NodeD - Windows Server 2019

SQL Server 2016 ENT, with Always on groups configured to instances on secondary sites nodes C & D.

I am looking to upgrade OS first to Windows Server 2022 first on all 4 nodes one by one, followed by SQL Server upgrade to SQL Server 2019 once Operating system upgrade is completed.

Could anyone please guide me where I should start from scratch as there's no much info available.

Thanks
Vijay

    Hi VijayRana-0164,

To upgrade the cluster OS, please check Cluster operating system rolling upgrade.

To upgrade SQL Server failover cluster, use SQL Server setup to upgrade each node participating in the failover cluster instance, one at a time, starting with the passive nodes. As you upgrade each node, it is left out of the possible owners of the failover cluster instance. Please refer to Upgrade a failover cluster instance for more datails.

To upgrade an AG that contains failover cluster instance (FCI) nodes, you should upgrade the inactive nodes before you upgrade the active nodes. Please check Upgrading Always On Availability Group Replica Instances for more information.

    Best Regards,
    Amelia
