Outlook 365 delegation access - unknown server error

I follow all the steps for adding my wife to MS Outlook 365 for Mac. When I go to click OK after selecting the appropriate delegations, I receive an error 'Failed to configure permissions' 'Unknown server error occurred' with an OK button at the bottom. I've rebooted, I've searched for answers, I've checked the forums to the best of my ability, and no help. Can someone help me? Microsoft as a whole is frequently frustrating!

I tried testing in Outlook for Mac Version 16.56 (21121100) and can successfully add a delegate for my account:

For your situation, could you check the detailed version information of your Outlook 365 for Mac via Outlook > About Outlook?
How about testing by selecting different users when adding the delegate and see if the error persists?

Besides, if you happen to have an Outlook for Windows desktop client at hand, would you try checking if the delegate can be configured for your wife's account there. This can help narrow down whether the issue only affects the Outlook for Mac clients or it's more likely to be a server related issue as indicated in the error message. In case it also fails on Outlook for Windows, it's recommended to try contacting the Exchange administrator for your wife's account as well for further analysis from the Exchange server side.

Hi YukiSun, I do have this version of Outlook for Mac. Thank you for your fast response. I learned from an outside person that only persons with accounts inside of my company can be selected for delegation (simple enough, but never stated). I am now endeavoring to have my wife added in an administrative capacity within our company. I hope that this solves the issue. Microsoft continues to be a challenge to me! I had to reload this page 3 times, signing in each time, until I was allowed to leave this comment. Each of the first 2 times, I was told that I needed to sign in, which I had already done. If not for the many difficulties Microsoft presents to me almost daily, I would not have persevered to be able to thank you for your help. Thx, Frank

Great to know that you've sorted this out. And yes, it's true that we can only add a user inside the same organization to be a delegate. This is mentioned in the following article for Outlook for Windows, but this note applies to all platforms including Outlook for Mac: Allow someone else to manage your mail and calendar.
