Why is Intel i7-4800MQ not Win11 compatible???

How is it that Microsoft is stating that my Intel i7-4800MQ CPU running at 2.7 GHz with 4 cores and 32Gb RAM (and 512Gb SSD) is NOT compatible with Windows 11? The list of Intel chips that are eligible shows a sea of much lesser chips that are compatible. I suspect that if I went ahead and manually installed, then Windows 11 would in fact work. Is the PC Health Check app mistaken?

Microsoft, please explain yourself.

    Hi @B. James keown ,

Windows 11 requires an Intel CPU of 8th generation or higher. The Intel I7-4800MQ is a 4th generation CPU from 2013.

Some more details about the "why" you might find here: https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/08/27/update-on-windows-11-minimum-system-requirements-and-the-pc-health-check-app/

    According to Microsoft:

Devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes. Devices that do meet the minimum system requirements had a 99.8% crash free experience.

    Hello @B. James keown

The main reason for not being in the list of not compatible devices is not because of performance, but because of security reasons. One of the main focus of Microsoft in the Windows 11 version is towards security and protection. Most of the processors not compatible are because don´t have TPM, TPM version is below 1.2, and other low level architecture flaws that may expose your system to certain vulnerabilities.

As well, there are some methods involving registry changes, to proceed with the installation on not compatible devices (I have seen installations even on CPUs as old as 2006), but please check the next article to be aware of the supportability:

Hope this helps with your query,
