Have Office 2021 show as Office 2019

New Laptop has Office 2021 (with activated license) Deleted the product key, un-installed office, installed 2019, and entered product key.

"Already setup" user still shows with office 2021, "new" users show office 2019.

How can we have the "already setup" user show as office 2019?

    Hi @Lisa Traweek ,
This problem may related to the product key in PC, I suggest you check the status of Office product key in PC, please follow these steps:

Search CMD, right-click the Command Prompt and run as administrator. Then copy and paste the command, click Enter at last:
    cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /dstatus
If you are running 32-bit Office on a 64-bit operating system:
    cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /dstatus

If you can find the Office 365 product key in list, try to remove it by typing the following command with the Last 5 characters of installed product key (I replace it with XXXXX, but what you type in is what you see on your computer) in this interface:
    cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /unpkey:XXXXX
If the 32bit version of Office installed on a 64bit operation, run the following command:
    cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /unpkey:XXXXX

Tried that, and because this is a new computer there is no "previous version to go back to". I just receive an error trying to complete the update.

I tried that as well. The product key was correct and showed the 2019 version, it was the user profile that would only use the 2021. completed a system restore to remove any residuals, and re-installed office with the 2019 product key and that correct the issue.

    Thanks,

In my case (purchased office 2021 but it showed the old 2019 icon) I fixed it by logging out and back in my microsoft account.

Open one of the office tools, for example word, disconnect the microsoft account used (File or Home, then accounts) and then reconnect.

Close the app and reopen it and it works like a charm.
