Trusted Locations - Adding more than GPO allows

Has anyone managed to find a method to add more than the allowed trusted locations to office 365 suite via group policy.

Currently in the word, excel admx files it allows you to add trusted location for each office suite app or add under office 2016 for all office apps. There is a limit of 20 locations for each office app however what happens if you are already using 20 of the 20 locations in the gpo and need to add more?

Creating another gpo doesn’t work as the higher link order gpo wins so the gpo with 1-20 no longer applies, only 21-40 will apply not merge.

I’m guessing the limit is 20 as per the GPO but unable to find any documentation that details this.

Modifying the admx to add more locations will result in an unsupported environment so need to avoid that.

Other option would be to use GPP and create the locations via registry but not sure if office suite appa support this method.?

    Hi @Ricky Moolraj ,
I suggest you refer to this thread and the reply of Andy Qi, you can modify the group policy AMD file to increase the trusted locations:

It seems that you can try to edit the Group Policy.

    Hi there,

I suppose 20 is the limit and some users have suggested modifying the Office Administrative Template files to increase the trusted location but the limitation seems to be 35 Trusted Locations.

Here is a link for a detailed description of the process that you must follow.

Thanks both, I had seen that option but there question is, if you do modify the admx/adml files are you now in an unsupported state with MS?

I suppose only the product group could advise on what is officially (undocumented) supported. Nothing I can find in any documentation that only 20 is supported and use cases if you need more.

Thanks for the links, think I’ll go down the GPP route, tested this and seems to work.
