I have set dhcp failover relationship between 2 windows servers. Load balance mode. Everything works fine when these 2 server are online. But when one of the servers down, the client still cannot obtaine the IP address from the worked server.

Any advice would be appreciated!

    Hi ,

Based on my understanding, your issue is that 2 Windows Server configured in DHCP failover - load balancing mode. DHCP client can’t obtain IP address from partner DHCP server when the DHCP server down.

Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following questions:

1.Have you tried ipconfig /release to release the IP lease first, and then use ipconfig /renew to obtain the IP lease again? or multiple attempts to renew IP lease? What's the error message when you cannot renew IP address?

2.What's the OS version of your DHCP server?

3.If the client and the partner DHCP server are on different subnets, check to see if there is DHCP relay agent to transmit the DHCP message between subnets.

4.Right-Clicking the scope and selecting Display Statistics. This will show how many IP addresses are assigned and available from each failover partner.

5.Verify your partnership state by viewing the scopes properties and selecting the Failover tab.
