Brand new Laptop and keep getting BSoD Stop Code: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, is this a hardware or software/driver issue?

Hi,

I purchased a brand new Lenovo Legion 5 and keep getting BSoD every 45 minutes or so and its an error I have never seen before, I have since done all the recommended updates on both Lenovo Vantage and their support site as well as downloading Samsung Magician to ensure the driver for my SSD is up to date and fingers crossed this morning it hasn't had a crash yet, can you have a look through the dump files and see if any other things require change? Or if in fact it is a hardware issue and needs to be returned under warranty.

Please see MiniDump Files: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Avi2dKtQ8f0CkW_TZCnrjMPxfpsS?e=ORssDA

Thanks
Joe

New computers should not have BSOD.

Consider a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).

There were misbehaving drivers seen in the 4 mini dump files.

If you want to troubleshoot then

    a) run the V2 log collector and post a share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

    b) Open administrative command prompt and copy and paste:

    PowerShell Compress-Archive "%WinDir%\MEMORY.DMP" "%UserProfile%\Desktop\Memory_dmp"

ZIP the memory.dmp > post a separate share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

It's a brand new laptop. I wouldn't fool with it period. Another problem could be causing your issue.
You don't want to take any chances of goofing it up more than it already is.
That could hurt your chances of exchanging it depending on where you bought it.
You should be able to return it for another one without any problems.
If they say they can repair it I would demand another unit. After all, It's brand spanking new !

    Hello Joe,

Thank you for your question and reaching out.

I can understand you are facing with BSOD issue wit your new Laptop.

DPC Watchdog Violation refers to the stop code: DPC_Watchdog_Violation, which is a blue screen error that can appear on the Windows operating system. It's usually occurred due to some specific reasons, like unsupported SSD firmware, old SSD driver version, hardware incompatibility issues, or system files are corrupted.

    1. Please try to upgrade BIOS firmware and Drivers from Lenovo website.
    2. Disable any Antivirus program or Windows firewall you may have for temporary purpose.
    3. As you have SSD try to Uninstall and update its firmware and drivers.
    4. Disable Fast start up using below command and power cycle your laptop.
      powercfg /hibernate off

On the other note ,as you have Brand new Laptop I will advise you to get in touch with Lenovo support if issue persists and they can run some more diagnostic and can guide you for replacement if issue within hardware.
