Azure Backup - migrate backup from one server to another

Hi,

Scenario:

Server A (2019) is replacing Server B (2016). We are perfectly migrating all the data (just files) from one to the other. Currently the file system is backup up to MS Azure via MARS agent (On site filesystem backup).

Ideally I'd like to be able to continue the backups from the new server to the current backup item/set, rather than starting over again and creating a new "backup item" in the Recovery Service Vault.

Is there a way?

Thanks

Hello @Ralph Taylor Welcome to Microsoft Q&A community forum!

I understand that you must have followed the correct process to move the data from Server 2016 to Server 2019. However, the old server registration cannot be used to continue backups of the new server. Server registration to the vault is a mandatory requirement to perform backups of on-premise machines to Azure. That said, you need to install "Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent" (MARS) on the new server and register it to the Recovery Services Vault (RSV) just like a new machine.
